That’s why you say: Bring it on. That’s why you say hit me with your best shot. Because you have plans to use it. Because you’re going to step up and make something of this moment. Because you know that’s the only part of this that’s up to you.

Bring On Your Wrecking Ball

“Burn your wish list. I want to see your commitment list. I want to know what you are committed to doing with your 24 hours a day to close the gap between where you are and where you want to be. What are you willing to sacrifice inside your 86,400 seconds every day to become the person you want to be?!”

Burn Your Goals, Joshua Medcalf

“Everyone wants to be great, until it’s time to do what greatness requires.”

“the truth about partially controllable goals: they are very alluring, but very dangerous. Things like winning, rebounding, sales, or beating your opponent’s records, can distract us from what is more important: the person we become on the journey.”

Ah, McSweeny's. Never change. :flan_XD:

“Careful, that compound is rich in phlogiston. Oh, sorry, ‘kinetic energy.’ You have to be politically correct these days.”

Remember today that ego is not making you better. At best, it is a drag on your talents—a tax people are only willing to pay for a short time. At worst, it is a ticking time bomb that will take you and the people who work with you down in flames.

Don’t Learn This Dangerous Lesson

“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”
— Mark Twain

am reading Mastering Regular Expressions btw.
On chapter 2

The book has 10 chapters.

Chapters 1 - 6 are core regex
Chapters 7 - 10 are how to use ’em in various programming languages.

Am only going to focus an the first part.

the language chapters are now dated and don’t contain anything about python anyway, which is what I am learning.

So chapter 6 is where I’ll be waving au revoir to the book

To celebrate I’ve moved the goal posts a teensy bit again.
I realise I need to build muscle and that I need to put on some weight again.
So I set the floor a teensy bit lower at 67kgs, so I can build constructively.
Also 67 is a good number, so I can say, I lost 30 kilos 😂
(Highest weight was 97.2)

1.7 kilos down. Yippee!
Killed goal 5 too!
And just realised that I’ve also achieved the original weight goal I had set for myself at 72kgs all those months ago.
This has been simultaneously both one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve done.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.
